Prophet Uzair (Ezra)
5th–4th century BCE (Persian period; return from exile).
Uzair (Ezra) is honoured in the Quran as a righteous man; the Jews wrongly said that Uzair is the son of Allah (At-Tawbah 9:30). Ishaq Ibn Bishr reported on the authority of Ibn 'Abbas and others that Ezra was a saint and a wise man. He went out to his farm, came to a deserted ruined place, and asked how Allah would bring it to life after its death—out of curiosity, not doubt. Allah took his life for one hundred years, then revived him and his donkey and showed him how Allah revives the dead. He returned home, was recognised by his maid (whom he cured of blindness and lameness), and restored and copied the Torah that had been hidden since Nebuchadnezzar. The village in ruins is said to be Sayrabadh. He died at forty and Allah resurrected him at the same age.
