Natural madd (madd tabi'i): a long vowel letter — ا و ي — with nothing after it that demands more, held exactly two counts. Most stretching errors are not exotic rules missed; they are natural madds squeezed to one count in fast reading. قال is qaa-la, two even counts on the qaa, every single time.
