Two kinds of feature
PHYSICAL features were not made by people: hills, rivers, beaches, forests, weather. HUMAN features were: houses, roads, shops, factories, bridges. Look at a photograph and sort what you can see into the two lists. Almost every place is a mixture.
City and village
A city has many people close together, tall buildings, buses and trains, lots of shops. A village has few people, more space, more fields, maybe one shop. Neither is better — they suit different lives, and most people in Britain live somewhere between the two.
Why a place is where it is
Towns grew where there was something useful: a river crossing, a harbour, good farmland, coal underground. Look up why your own town is where it is. There is almost always a reason, and it is usually older than anyone living there.
Sort these into HUMAN and PHYSICAL: a river, a bridge, a hill, a farm, a wood, a motorway, a beach, a harbour, a valley, a village. Physical: river, hill, beach, valley. Human: bridge, farm, motorway, harbour, village. The wood is the argument — a natural wood is physical, a planted forestry block is human. Ask of each one: who put this here?
