Prophet Muhammad
570–632 CE (born Makkah c. 570; first revelation 610; Hijrah 622; passed away Madinah 632).
Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the final prophet and messenger of Allah—"the seal of the prophets." He was born in Makkah in the Year of the Elephant and was known for his truthfulness and trustworthiness (al-Amin). At forty, in the cave of Hira, the angel Jibril came to him with the first revelation: "Recite in the name of your Lord who created." He was sent to recite Allah's verses, to purify people, and to teach the Book and wisdom; "We have not sent you except as a mercy to the worlds." He called to worship Allah alone; he and his companions faced persecution; he migrated to Madinah (the Hijrah), established the first Islamic state, and returned to conquer Makkah with mercy and forgiveness. The Quran was revealed to him over twenty-three years. He completed the message of Islam and passed away in Madinah. His life (Seerah) and his Sunnah are the primary guidance for Muslims after the Quran.
