Prophet Adam
Beginning of human history (Islamic tradition: creation of the first man).
Adam is the first human being and the first prophet (nabi) in Islam. Allah created him from clay, taught him the names of all things, and commanded the angels to prostrate before him. He and his wife Hawwa (Eve) dwelt in Paradise until Iblis tempted them to eat from the forbidden tree; after their repentance they were sent to earth, where Adam became the father of mankind. His story establishes human responsibility, the covenant with Allah, and the first murder (Cain and Abel); before his death he appointed his son Seth as his successor and passed on the hours of worship.
