Prophet Daniel

6th century BCE (Babylonian exile; traditional identification with Daniel).

Daniel is mentioned in Islamic tradition as a righteous prophet who lived in Babylon. He maintained his faith and prayer in the court of the king and was known for his wisdom and interpretation of dreams. When his enemies had him thrown into the lions' den, Allah protected him and the lions did not harm him. His story illustrates Allah's power to protect His servants and the reward of steadfastness. The Quran does not name him; his story is preserved in the tradition of the prophets of the Children of Israel during the exile.
