Al-Isra wal-Miraj — The Night Journey
621 CE · The Prophetic Era
In the hardest stretch of the Makkan years — after the deaths of Khadijah (RA) and Abu Talib — the Prophet ﷺ is taken by night from Makkah to al-Aqsa in Jerusalem, and from there through the heavens. Surah al-Isra opens with the journey: "Exalted is He who took His Servant by night from al-Masjid al-Haram to al-Masjid al-Aqsa" (17:1). The five daily prayers were appointed on this night.
