Stopping and starting: the waqf marks

مـ compulsory stop — continuing changes the meaning. ج permissible stop. صلى continuing is better. قلى stopping is better. ۛ ۛ the three dots in pairs: stop at ONE of the two, not both, not neither. لا do not stop here — though if you must breathe, go back a little and resume. These marks are guidance from scholars of the text, not decoration.
