Noon sakinah: the four doors

Quran Recitation with Tajweed · a self-paced course lesson

When a noon carries sukoon (نْ) or a word ends in tanween, the NEXT letter decides what your tongue does. Four doors: izhar (clear noon) before the six throat letters ء ه ع ح غ خ; idgham (merge) into ي ر م ل و ن; iqlab (flip to meem) before ب alone; ikhfa (hide with ghunnah) before the remaining fifteen. Every mushaf you will ever recite runs on these four doors.
