At-Tabari (d. 310 AH) is the great collector: narration-based, quoting the early community with chains, laying opinions side by side. Ibn Kathir (d. 774 AH) is the disciplined narrator: Quran explained by Quran, then hadith, with weak reports flagged — the most widely translated. Al-Qurtubi (d. 671 AH) is the jurist: rulings, language, and how ayat ground law. As-Sa'di (d. 1376 AH) is the clear teacher: short, direct meaning for the general reader. Same ayah, four angles — that is a library, not a contradiction.
