Reading one ayah deeply: the method

The deep-read this course trains: (1) read the ayah and its neighbours in Arabic and translation; (2) place it — what is the surah doing here, Makki or Madani, what came before; (3) look at two or three key words in the morphology view, root and range; (4) only NOW open named tafsir, at least two authors; (5) write one sentence of what you understood, in your own words, dated. Steps 1–3 before commentary — so the commentary answers questions you actually formed.
