Allahu akbar — Allah is GREATER. Not "great": the comparative is the point, and its object is deliberately open. Greater than whatever was occupying you when you raised your hands: work, fear, the argument, the phone. Every movement of salah is entered through this phrase, and each repetition re-ranks the world with Allah above the thing you just left.
