Suleiman the Magnificent — The Lawgiver
1520–1566 CE · The Ottoman Empire
Suleiman I rules the Ottoman Empire at its absolute zenith — expanding to Vienna in the west, Oman in the south, and the Ukraine in the north. Known in the Islamic world as "Al-Qanuni" (The Lawgiver) for his overhaul of Ottoman law. The Suleymaniye Mosque in Istanbul and the renovation of Jerusalem's Old City walls are built under his rule.
