Akbar the Great — The Pragmatic Emperor

Akbar expands Mughal territory across most of the subcontinent and is the most famous Indian emperor in Western accounts. He instituted Din-i-Ilahi (a syncretic personal religious philosophy) and abolished the jizya tax on non-Muslims — policies that many Muslim scholars of his time criticised strongly.
