Classical method explains the Quran in ranked layers: first by the Quran itself (one ayah unpacking another), then by the Sunnah (the Prophet ﷺ acting out and explaining revelation), then by the Companions who watched it descend, then by the early generations, and only then by later scholarly reasoning about language and context. A responsible reader always asks: which layer am I being given right now?
