Reading with grammar eyes

Quranic Arabic · a self-paced course lesson

Arabic marks roles with endings: the doer tends to -u (raf'), the done-to -a (nasb), the after-preposition -i (jarr). خَلَقَ اللَّهُ السَّمَاوَاتِ — Allah(-u) is the doer, the heavens(-i, sound feminine plural nasb) the created. Word order is freer than English precisely BECAUSE endings carry the map; learn to glance at ends of words the way you glance at road signs.
