Prophet Lut (Lot)
Contemporary of Ibrahim (c. 19th century BCE; people of Sodom).
Lut (Lot) was a prophet and the nephew of Ibrahim, sent to a people who committed grave immorality—sodomy, highway robbery and evil in their assemblies. He called them to abandon their ways and fear Allah, but they threatened him. When angels came to him in human form, the people demanded that he hand them over; Lut offered his daughters in marriage instead, but they insisted on their evil intent. The angels revealed themselves and told Lut to leave with his family by night and not to look back. A blast overturned the cities; Lut's wife looked back and was destroyed. Lut and the believers were saved; the ruins remain as a sign.
