The adab and craft of du'a

The transmitted craft: open with praise of Allah by His names suited to your need (ar-Razzaq when asking provision, al-Ghafur when seeking pardon), send salawat upon the Prophet ﷺ, then ask — specifically, expectantly, without hedging ("if You will" is for oaths, not for asking; the narration instructs asking with certainty of His hearing). Close with salawat and amin. A shape, not a script.
