Prophet Idris (Enoch)
Before the Flood; often placed in the 3rd millennium BCE (Islamic tradition).
Idris (Enoch) is a prophet whom Allah raised to a high station; the Quran says he was truthful and patient. He was of the fifth generation from Adam and called his people back to the religion of Adam and Seth, but few believed. He migrated with his followers from Babylon to Egypt, where he taught justice, prayer, fasting, and charity. Islamic tradition holds that he was the first to write with the pen and that Allah took him up to the heavens without tasting death—hence "We raised him to a high station."
Allah has praised Enoch, describing him as being a prophet and truthful: "Mention in the Book (Quran) Idris (Enoch). Verily! He was a man of truth (and) a prophet. We raised him to a high station." (Maryam 19:56-57) "And Isma'il and Idris and Dhul-Kifl—all were of the patient." (Al-Anbiya 21:85)
