The opening supplication and seeking refuge

Prayer Arabic (Salah & Du'a) · a self-paced course lesson

A widely reported opening: سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ، وَتَبَارَكَ اسْمُكَ، وَتَعَالَى جَدُّكَ، وَلَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُكَ — "Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise; blessed is Your name; exalted is Your majesty; there is no god but You." Another reported opening asks Allah to distance you from your sins as far as east is from west. Both are established; different schools favour different ones, and either is prayed with confidence.
